Designing the In-Between

Laundry rooms are often treated as purely functional spaces you pass through, not linger in. This renovation challenges that mindset by proving that even the most utilitarian rooms deserve thoughtful design. When done right, a laundry room can be just as beautiful, intentional, and enjoyable as the rest of the home.

In this space, wallpaper plays a starring role. Rather than reserving pattern for formal rooms, we used it to bring personality and warmth to an everyday work zone. The subtle, layered motif adds visual interest and depth, transforming the room from basic to elevated while still feeling calm and timeless.

Storage was a key priority. Upper cabinets and vertical storage maximize every inch, keeping detergents, cleaning supplies, office items, and daily clutter neatly tucked away. Open shelving adds a moment of contrast and accessibility, while still feeling styled and intentional. By designing upward instead of outward, the countertops remain clear and functional, making the room easier to use and easier to maintain.

This laundry room also pulls double duty, seamlessly accommodating work-from-home tasks and household organization without feeling cluttered. Thoughtful cabinetry and layout ensure everything has a place, supporting real life without sacrificing aesthetics.

The result is a space that feels bright, organized, and inviting, one that subtly shifts the experience of everyday chores. When a room is beautiful, efficient, and designed with care, even laundry feels a little less like work.

This renovation is a reminder that “in-between” rooms matter. With intentional design choices, practical spaces can become some of the most satisfying rooms in the home supporting how families live while still feeling polished and personal.
