Dining in the Mountains

This week, we’re heading to a mountain home just outside Colorado Springs, where the dining room and kitchen were designed to complement the breathtaking surroundings while still feeling warm, inviting, and collected.

When a room has this much personality, how do you choose just one showstopper? In this dining room, it could easily be the lighting or the dining table.

The semi-custom light fixture from Hammerton Lighting brings a sculptural element to the room, creating a statement overhead without competing with the other design elements. But then there’s the one-of-a-kind Taracea dining table. With its natural character and substantial presence, the table is a piece you notice the moment you walk in.

The table is paired with upholstered espresso-colored chairs, finished with a pop of color in the back pillow. That same color carries into the adjoining living room, creating continuity between the spaces while allowing the dining room to have its own personality.

In the kitchen, the mountains themselves became part of the inspiration. The countertop, paired with the incredible mountain views just beyond the patio, provided the jumping-off point for the room’s color palette.

The cabinetry combines stained white oak with painted lower cabinets that coordinate with the backsplash. This mix of natural wood and painted finishes adds warmth, contrast, and visual interest without taking away from the surrounding landscape. The result is a kitchen that feels connected to its setting rather than competing with it. Natural materials, thoughtful color choices, and the mountain views work together to create a space that feels both sophisticated and completely at home in Colorado.
