Office with Character

A home office should be more than just a place to work, it should be a space that inspires productivity while reflecting the personality of the homeowner. In this renovation, the goal wasn't to completely reinvent the room, but to give it the warmth, balance, and character it had been missing.

The most dramatic transformation came through color. What was once an all-white office now feels rich and inviting, thanks to cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal. The deep, moody finish instantly adds sophistication while coordinating beautifully with the adjoining living room, creating a seamless flow between the two spaces.

We also made strategic updates to the built-in cabinetry. By removing outdated upper cabinets that made the office feel heavy and enclosed, the room immediately became more open and airy. We then finished out the remaining cabinetry to create symmetry, giving the space a more intentional and custom appearance.

One of our favorite parts of the project was styling the shelves with the client's own collection of books, artwork, and meaningful treasures. Rather than filling the shelves with generic accessories, we wanted the office to tell the homeowner's story. Incorporating personal pieces creates a space that feels authentic, lived-in, and uniquely theirs, something no showroom styling can replicate.

Although the cabinetry is darker, the office actually feels brighter. Opening up the built-ins allows more light to circulate throughout the room, while improved organization makes the workspace feel calmer and more functional. Every element now has a purpose, making the office better suited for everyday work and daily routines.

This renovation is a great reminder that dramatic transformations don't always require a complete remodel. Thoughtful updates, strategic color choices, and intentional styling can completely change how a space looks and functions. Sometimes, it's not about replacing everything it's about recognizing the potential that's already there and giving it the opportunity to shine.
