From Everyday to Elevated

Sometimes the spaces we use the most are the ones that need a little extra love. They may not be the grandest room in the house, but they become part of our everyday routines. That was exactly the case with this kitchen nook. It was a well-loved area that was already an important part of the home, but it was ready for a refresh. The goal wasn't to completely reinvent the space. Instead, we wanted to make it feel fresh, functional, and more connected to the surrounding kitchen and living areas while keeping the casual, inviting feeling that made it so useful.

One of the biggest changes was the addition of a custom banquette upholstered in a beautiful luxury vinyl in Butter Suede. Today's luxury vinyl options are a far cry from what you might remember. This one has a sophisticated, tailored look while offering something especially important for a family space: easy cleanability. Choosing a durable vinyl means the banquette can stand up to messy moments without sacrificing style. It's also a more sustainable choice, giving us the look and feel we wanted with the practical performance this busy area needs.

Lighting can completely change how a small area feels, and this nook was the perfect place to introduce something unexpected. The concrete light fixture adds texture and visual interest while providing a little contrast to the softer upholstery and marble.

It also helps balance the space. With the combination of the banquette, table, chairs, and surrounding kitchen finishes, the concrete fixture gives the eye another material and shape to take in without overwhelming the nook.

Finally, we refreshed the entire space with a new coat of paint—not just the walls, but the trim, shutters, and crown molding as well. The color we selected was Benjamin Moore Sea Pearl, a soft, versatile neutral that gives the nook a clean, fresh feeling while allowing the furnishings and accent colors to stand out.

To complement the new banquette, we added a marble bistro table with a metal base. The combination brings a little sophistication to this everyday spot while the dark metal base creates a visual connection to the black accents already used in the kitchen and living room.

The chairs were another opportunity to bring in personality. Rather than choosing a standard finish, we selected a custom color that works with the home's accent palette of blue, green, and the warm Butter Suede of the banquette. The result feels coordinated without being too matchy-matchy.

The best part of this transformation is that the kitchen nook still feels like exactly what it should be: an everyday space. It isn't too precious to use. It isn't overly decorated or designed just to look good in photographs. It is comfortable, durable, inviting, and ready for real life.

Sometimes you don't need a completely new room. You just need to see a well-loved space with fresh eyes.
