The change in the weather, as well as Marie Kondo, has all of us in the mood to get started on our spring cleaning. While looking through closets and storage units for what sparks joy, we have some items we are ready to part with. There are a good amount of places to donate clothing, household items, and toys, but what about furniture? Don't send it to a landfill or set it in your alley, donate it!
This week I am serving the community of Philadelphia with the youth on the annual Spring Break Mission Trip with my church. We have been spending some time learning about families and people that are transitioning from being homeless, and with this the need for furniture is high. Furniture donation facilities will accept everything from couches to dining room tables. There are many groups that will come to your home for pick-ups and take those items off your hands.
Check out some places to donate!
Bed Start- Gives help to those in need at no charge, and will come to pick up the items you wish to donate.
Dallas Furniture Bank- This group provides furniture to families transitioning from homelessness.
Dwell With Dignity- This group does it all! This group helps families transitioning from homelessness with furniture and design!
The Genesis Benefit Thrift Store- While this is a thrift store that will sell your items, all of the proceeds will benefit Genesis clients, who have escaped domestic violence. The families also have the opportunity select anything they need from the store, since most of the clients leave their homes with nothing.
Help a family in need, and donate your excess furniture, clothes, and household items.
