Let's face it, when it comes to hanging anything on our walls, we sometimes wing it. We eyeball the perfect height and then it's hammer time and poof we are done! Please I beg of you, put down the hammer and read on.

Now the problem is never that we hang a painting or picture too low, we hang it do high that our necks are craned to be able to see our piece properly. The rule of thumb for hanging artwork is to have the center of the piece 5ft off the ground, making the piece hung at about eye-level.
This being said, you also have to take in consideration where you are hanging the piece and the height of your ceiling. hanging the artwork above a headboard, fireplace, sofa, or buffet? Keep in centered in the space you are working with! If your ceilings are on the higher side you can go a little bit higher than 5 feet, but not too much, or the cycle of too high artwork starts all over again. The most important thing to remember is consistency, if you used 5ft for 1 piece in a room use 5ft for all.
Here are some easy steps to take!
Step 1: Lightly mark 5ft on the wall you are working with.
Step 2: Measure the piece of art and divide by 2, this will give you the center.
Step 3: Measure from top of your picture to wherever you are hanging it from, this should be a pretty small amount, depending on your frame or canvas.
Step 4: Subtract that amount from what you found in step 2, this should tell you there your nail or hook should go. Mark this on your wall.
Step 5: Hang it girl!

The next question you are going to ask is, "What if I am doing a gallery wall?! What do I do then?!" Well calm down because I have a solution for that as well. There are a few tips and tricks you can use, but the most important thing to think about is to visualize the gallery wall as a single piece of work. The best way to do this is to get a large piece of butcher paper and cut out the shape of each frame. Then you can play around with the design and layout by taping the pieces of paper on the wall. It works best if you choose one as a statement piece and go from there!
